Spread of Islam

Spread of Islam

Was Islam spread by the Sword?

Many will make you believe that the Spread of Islam was forced on people and if they didn’t accept Islam as a religion, they will meet a death by the sword.

But this is far from the truth.

How do we know that…?

While it is true that there were many battles with Muslims armies going against the Pagans, and spears and swords were the weapons used to confront the enemy with, the battles were not to convert people to Islam, but it was to defend, or liberate people and their land from tyrants.

And even then, there were Islamic rules of engagement that had to be upheld, and anything that goes against the teaching of Islam was forbidden and not carried out, such as no house of worship were destroyed, non-combatants were not touched, trees were not pulled, and so on.

Proofs the Spread of Islam was not by the sword

In order to know the truth and find out whether Islam was spread by the sword or not, all we need to do is research the topic extensively and get your information from a trusted source! And the most trusted source is Allah (SWT).

If you go to a Muslim and tell him that his religion, Islam, teaches hatred and forces people to convert or suffer the consequences, you have to bring with you the evidence that Islam was spread by the sword with you.

I know you can’t because you can’t bring something with you that does not exist.

But we can bring a proof with us that Islam was not spread by the sword and, again, this proof is coming from the book, or God, you accuse of spreading hatred and converting people to Islam by force.

Our proof is from the Holy Quran, which happens to be the words of Allah (SWT) and if you are accusing Allah (SWT) of saying that we must force non-believers to Islam with any means necessary, this is what Allah (SWT) says…

“Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.” Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2, verse 256 (2:256) – English Translation by YUSUF ALI
